D&G Machinery Asphalt Mixing Plant Recycling Retrofitting Application: A Case Study in Thailand

May 16, 2025

Against the backdrop of global advocacy for green and low-carbon development, sustainable development has emerged as a critical imperative for the road construction industry. As China's leading manufacturer of asphalt mixing plant, D&G Machinery proactively responds to national "dual carbon" goals (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) by pioneering technological innovations in plant recycling and upgrade. This strategic approach enables efficient resource circulation while extending equipment lifecycle, reducing customer investment costs, and significantly cutting energy consumption and carbon emissions during production—all of which align with the industry trend toward green and intelligent transformation.

Demand and Background of Asphalt Recycling in Thailand

Thailand's highway network exceeds 80,000 kilometers, generating over 5 million tons of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) annually. Traditional landfill disposal is costly, while Thailand’s “National Green Growth Strategy (2023-2030)” stipulates a minimum 30% RAP utilization rate in road projects. Meanwhile, Thailand's tropical climate—characterized by high temperatures and humidity—results in RAP moisture content typically exceeding 5%, leading to uneven heating, clumping, and performance variability. The majority of RAP sourced from heavy-duty roads with severe asphalt aging issues.

Localized Application of D&G Machinery Recycling Retrofitting in Thailand

Retrofitting Target: The Thai customer purchased the 1500-model D&G Machinery asphalt mixing plant in 2015. To meet environmental protection and production diversification needs, the original plant is now transformed and upgraded to a hot recycling plant, equipped with T190 RAP dryer drum. This upgrade enables up to 40% RAP mixing rate while maintaining stable performance.

●Key Challenge and Expected Result:

-Complex RAP sources

-Resource recycling with less cost, meeting diverse product needs

●Application: Road maintenance projects in Thailand

●Post-retrofit Result:

(1)  Large-scale RAP hot recycling is achieved, enabling efficient, eco-friendly and low-cost asphalt mixture production (17.5%-50% raw material cost saving).

(2) The performance of RAP mixture can meet virgin mixture performance standards with precise temperature control and layered heating technology, while the pavem ent compaction and durability lifted by 15%.

(3)Energy efficiency is upgraded, with higher thermal efficiency and lower energy consumption.

(4)After the hot recycling upgrade, RAP exhaust gas enters the primary drum for secondary combustion, reducing exhaust emissions while protecting the environment.

Inspiration for the Southeast Asia Market

●Prioritize the promotion of modular retrofitting (to minimize downtime) to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized asphalt mixing plants in Southeast Asia.

●Advocate for the utilization of RAP in road projects in countries like Thailand.

The recycling retrofitting of asphalt mixing plant is not only an equipment upgrade but also a wise choice for sustainable development. D&G Machinery provides customer with a recycling technology system that is "economical, eco-friendly, and efficient" through modular design, intelligent control, and comprehensive eco-friendly solutions, empowering the realization of a "zero-waste construction site". Looking ahead, D&G Machinery is becoming a benchmark solution provider in asphalt recycling across Southeast Asia, driving regional circular economy development.
